Chariton Valley Association is seeking applicants that have a strong interest in helping others succeed, and a caring disposition for the position of Lead Support Professional (LSP).

Job Summary

The LSP is responsible for supervising staff, creating schedules, attending IP meetings, facilitating staff meetings, and most importantly assisting individuals to live their lives beyond expectations! Other areas include assisting wherever needed to ensure the home runs smoothly while promoting a supporting, loving environment for the individuals living there. While working with other staff in the home, LSP's will also help assist individuals with disabilities by providing a range of services including community integration, self-help skills, some general nursing care, and overall daily living. The position will also require on-call availability. 

Essential Functions

  • Works directly with the Professional Manager to assure that the well being of individuals of the program are met; through the proper recruitment, evaluation, and training of staff necessary to ensure the compliance with all organizational policies and procedures in the program as well as ensuring compliance with all state and local regulations governing the program.
  • Provides positive leadership, communication, and direction to the staff and individuals of the program.
  • Develops the work schedule of the direct care staff in the home.
  • Works directly with all agency personnel in the planning, implementation, and documentation of habilitative and medical goals of each individual of the program.
  • Responsible for informing the Professional Manager of the need for maintenance and upkeep on the home to assure a safe and healthy living environment for the individuals and staff of the program.
  • Works directly with the staff to assure that they are trained in, understand and are appropriately implementing the Individual Support Plan (ISP) goals of each individual.
  • Communicates to the Professional Manager the need for any specific training required by the staff of the program.
  • Selects, trains and evaluates the performance of subordinate personnel.
  • Works directly with the Professional Manager or Director of Administration to assure that the expenses incurred in the operation of the program are within the program budget, including, but not limited to, the purchase of materials, supplies and raw foods.
  • Provides positive communication and feedback to the neighbors of the home and community representatives regarding the individuals, staff and operations of the home. Be a positive representative of the corporation to the community on behalf of the individuals of the home.
  • Provides a positive forum for open communication and feedback to families of the individuals.
  • Works closely with parents and/or guardians of individuals to ensure an effective working relationship as well as an overall satisfaction of services delivered.
  • Works closely with the Service Coordinator as well as other Department of Mental Health Officials to ensure an effective working relationship.
  • Must have the ability to meet the demands of afterhours "on-call" as assigned by the Professional Manager.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism in the evaluation and supervision of subordinate employees.

Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Dependable vehicle and valid car insurance is required
  • Be 18yrs of age or older
  • At least 1 year supervisory experience and prior training is preferred.
  • Prior field experience of working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry 15-20 pounds on a daily basis. Must also be able to turn, twist, bend, kneel, stand and climb.
  • Mental and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position.
  • Adequate physical strength to lift and position individuals appropriately.
  • Ability to perform CPR and First Aid with training. 

Training Requirements: (All training is paid provided by CVA)

  • DMH Level 1 Medication Administration certification
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Mandt certification
  • Abuse and Neglect training
  • Annual HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Universal Precautions and PPE trainings. 
  • Other relevant training as assigned and required by DMH

Salary: $14.40 /hour. Direct care staff also receive enhanced pay during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Schedule/Availability: Based on the needs of the program. Full-time employees are expected to be available to be scheduled at least one weekend shift per week. This position also has an on-call rotation responsibility. 


Travel is expected of this position. Including, taking individuals to appointments and community outings.
